A new national poll released Monday by Latino Victory Project, Latino Decisions and America’s Voice said that 76% of U.S. Latinos disapprove of President Trump’s performance. In addition, according to the poll, 70% of U.S. Latinos “believe the Republican Party doesn’t care about or is hostile toward Latinos.”
In a media release, the poll’s principal organizers also noted that “racism and race relations rated as one of the most important issues facing our country.”
A Monday conference call about the poll results featured DNC Chairman Tom Perez, Latino Victory President Cristóbal J. Alex, and Latino Decisions Co-Founder Matt Barreto. An audio recording of the call can be heard here.
“What we see today is that the Republican Party is dramatically out of touch with Latinos,” Perez said. “Seventy percent of Latinos think the Republicans are either hostile to or don’t care about Latinos. That’s a remarkable rejection of the Republican Party.”
According to Latino Decisions, the poll “surveyed 755 Latino adults between September 12-19, 2017. Interviews were collected online in a respondent self-administered format, and the survey and invitation was available to respondents in English or Spanish. Respondents were drawn at random from a nationally representative online panel of Latino adults, which includes accurate samples of foreign-born and Spanish-speaking respondents. Quota sampling was employed to ensure the correct proportion of respondents by age and gender. The full data are weighted to match the adult population in the 2015 Census ACS 1-year data file for age, gender, education, nativity, ancestry, and voter registration status. A post-stratification raking algorithm was used to balance each category within +/- 1 percent of the ACS estimates. The survey carries a maximum margin of error of +/- 3.57 percentage points.”
