Top Five Charity Events To Stay Fit and Raise Funds

Walk/Run For Hope To Support Cancer Care
Run or walk to raise funds for Cancer Care, which provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer.  In its sixth year, the addition of a certified 5K run in 2011 drew more than 300 participants and raised more than $50,000.
Date: Sunday, Sept. 9
Location: Jennings Beach, 880 South Benson Road, Fairfield
Time: Registration 8 a.m., Walk/Run starts at 9:30 a.m.

Third Annual CT Challenge: Stand up Paddle
Race or enjoy a day of paddle boarding to benefit Ct Challenge program survivors. Last year, 21,500 cancer survivors were helped by CT Challenge programs. Choose between a 3.5-mile race or recreational course and a 6.5 mile-race or recreational course.
Date: Saturday, Sept. 15
Time: Registration 8:00 a.m., Paddling starts at 9:30 a.m.
Location: 401 Fairfield Beach Road, Fairfield
Registration fee: $45 ($65 after 9/13/12)
*Minimum Fundraising requirement: $250

Bike/ Hike The Beach
Enjoy a scenic hike or bike ride while raising funds to benefit people with disabilities. One hundred percent of the funds raised from Bike the Beach 2012 will be used to benefit people with developmental disabilities through the activities of the Probus Club of Greater Bridgeport and its support of other community organizations such as The Kennedy Center, Inc.
Date: Sunday, Sept. 23
Location: Jennings Beach, 880 South Benson Road, Fairfield
Hike: 5K
Bike: Riders can choose routes ranging among 10, 20, 45, or 62-mile routes (Helmets are required.)
Registration fee: $35 for riders, $25 for walkers

Purple Light – National Vigil for Hope
This event honors those who currently are battling pancreatic cancer, remembering loved ones who have battled, and to bring awareness.
Date: Sunday, Sept. 30
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Hubbard Park, 999 West Main St., Meriden

Northern CT JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes
Create a team through work, school, or with friends! All the money raised benefits the fight to cure juvenile diabetes through the work of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Date: Sunday, Oct. 7
Location: Rentschler Field, 615 Silver Lane, East Hartford
Registration starts at 8 a.m.
Walk Time: 10 a.m.
Walk: 3 miles
