Southwest Airlines Begins Service to Puerto Rico in April

CT Latinos will be able to fly Southwest Airlines from Bradley International Airport to San Juan, Puerto Rico, via Tampa, Fla., and Orlando, Fla., beginning in April. It will be the first time the airline flies outside of the continental United States.
According to Huffington Post Latino, Southwest made the decision because “300,000 Puerto Ricans have moved to the [Florida] in the last decade.” In addition to the Florida options, Southwest will also begin flying from Baltimore in April.
According to its website, Southwest is currently offering two flights a day to San Juan, Puerto Rico via Orlando. The flight costs $376.40 when reserved online at www.southwest.com. The lowest comparable American Airlines flight would be $482 but includes two stops. The best price on Delta would be $656, according to its website and also includes two stops.
JetBlue has a daily nonstop flight to San Juan from Bradley. A comparable flight to San Juan on JetBlue would be $407.
Southwest has two nonstop flights a day to Tampa from Bradley and three nonstop a day to Orlando. It has eight nonstop flights a day to Baltimore. It may be possible to tailor flights through Tampa and Baltimore but Southwest is only showing connections via Orlando currently.
The low-cost carrier also has a Spanish language website to help travelers. It is available at www.southwest.com/vamonos.
