When Mark Ifill-Haney first heard about a free boot camp in the city he was totally on board.
“Oh boot camp? I want to get some exercise anyway,” he recalled thinking.
The 15-year-old from New Haven Academy was surprised to learn the camp was a social justice and leadership skills boot camp run by Junta for Progressive Action—a New Haven based Latino empowerment organization. Eager to improve his speaking skills and bring change to his community, Ifill-Haney decided to give the camp a chance despite its lack of an athletic regimen
