Latina Among Finalists For The Women of Innovation Awards

The Connecticut Technology Council has announced the finalists for the 15th annual Women of Innovation Awards.

The awards honor Connecticut women accomplished in science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as those involved in volunteer efforts within their communities, according to the ct.org website.

Cristina Guzman-Toro is a finalist in the individual category, according to WTNH. Guzman-Toro is an ambassador for inclusion and diversity at Pratt & Whitney as well as an advocate for women to pursue careers in STEM fields, according to WTNH. Through her involvement in Pratt & Whitney’s Hispanic Leadership Forum and community volunteering events, she encourages STEM education, extracurricular activities and workforce opportunities.

Kari Mull will be representing Medtronic, the winner of the organizational award. Mull is co-chair of Medtronic Women’s Network, according to WTNH.  Medtronic is a medical device leader with a significant focus on technologies that enable minimally invasive surgery.

The Women of Innovation event seeks to create a growing network of women in the “trenches” of STEM, according to ct.org. Finalists for the award are scientists, researchers, academics, manufacturers, student leaders, drafters, entrepreneurs and technicians who create tomorrow’s advancements.

The awards will be presented on March 27.
