“The rising cost of prescription medication impacts everyone, but Hispanics are especially hard hit”, said Anna Doroghazi, associate state director – advocacy and outreach, AARP Connecticut. “In Connecticut, Hispanics are twice as likely as non-Hispanic whites to be diabetic, and the price of insulin has doubled in recent years. Insulin was discovered almost a hundred years ago. There is no reason why prices should be going up now, and it’s upsetting that these price increases disproportionately impact the Hispanic community.”
State bill seeks to lower sky-rocketing cost of prescription meds
House bill 7174, contains several proposals that would lower prescription drug prices which would help people have access to the medication they need.
AARP Connecticut is leading the “Stop Rx Greed” campaign, which individuals can join by signing a petition at aarp.org/stoprxgreedct, encouraging legislative and executive action in lowering prescription drug prices.
AARP’s Stop Rx Greed campaign promotes four solutions to the escalating prices of prescription drugs:
- stop price gouging
- increase access and affordability of prescription drugs
- promote transparency
- close loopholes
